Ani/Mate II

1. Barazoku ('Rose Tribe') NO. 19
2. Pierre Debusschere RS-RE 1 : AS

Raf likes to work with Pierre and I like to work with duplicates. Episodes of the subconsciously discovered and repeatedly recurrent. Even to myself it is a phenomenon what pairing will be next.

The Body

Acne Paper Issue Nº 13

Sometimes it is fairly enough to judge a book by its cover. And a man by its outer appearance. The superelevated, superficial surface we all seek, aspire and adore. Allowing comparison of one's projected and actual 'self'.

Post Paris XIII

A false encyclopaedic guide to the menswear collections, presenting:
Juun J. Fall/Winter 2012

1. Björk Homogenic 1997
2. Eiko Ishioka Faye Dunaway for Parco
3. Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2007

Following the visual path of the cryptic 'ikon', the geometric shape of the triangle reveals itself as a remarkable similarity. Collar, bow and cleavage depict a deep plunging V that recurs in a white shirt, layered underneath the referential print.

Dalí's Dolls

1. Surrealist Exhibition, Paris 1938
2. Comme des Garçons Spring/Summer 2009
2. Vogue Cover, April 1944
3. Portrait by George Platt Lynes

Handsome young Dalí and his mannequin. Foam wigs and breast cutouts. The former Rei Kawakubo? Vogue cover and lobster bikini. How would his hypothetical Spring/Summer 2013 collection look like?

2. Issey Miyake Spring/Summer 2004
3. Arena Homme + No. 20 Autumn/Winter 2003
4. Raf Simons Spring/Summer 2008

From the forbidden love for tribal to the antithetic affection for graffiti. In particular its appearance aside concrete walls and public transport. And how long have we been waiting. Who is going to follow?

Algetic Abstinence

Magazine Comme des Garçons Six

The curse of being born in the 80s: The fashion consciousness not established enough to witness and worship the creative heights of the 90s. May it be Helmut Lang or Comme des Garçons - I want my piece of this cake now!

The Gentlewoman Issue No. 2 vs. Vivienne Westwood Fall/Winter 2010

To continue the thought of our previous post one may state: The future of fashion is defined by men showing cleavage and women wearing beards. I find it positively exhilarating.

Subtitle

Another magazine that should soon enrich my collection. Especially these two issues. It is fascinating how strinkingly well the cover artworks reflect their time and aesthetic mood. Throughout all past decades.

Metropolis 2010

Photos Karl Lagerfeld

I more and more fall for the photographic genius of Karl Lagerfeld. Especially in regard of his continuation and adaption of utopian fantasies known from modern ancestors such as Fritz Lang and Thierry Mugler. Pursuing the concept of the robot woman.

Auf Wiedersehen

032c 19th Issue “William T. Vollmann", Summer 2010

When proudly flipping through the new shiny red issue of 032c, featuring typography apes on the cover, I stumbled upon a very familiar content: screen caps of Richard Gere in American Gigolo. A nice continuation.

Actually

Yes, they look good. Especially on the record sleeves. Posing with ugly dogs, wearing bow tie or a BOY cap. I have the whole collection and examnining the artwork and discovering new details again and again is like meditation. And somehow I even start to like the fact that after a while of listening to records, the dust blocks the needle so you have to get up and clean it before you can enjoy listening to 'Always On My Mind' again.
